Day 1: Exploring Northern Willamette Valley
Kick off your wine adventure by visiting some of the best wineries in the northern part of the valley:
David Hill Winery – Set on a historic estate, David Hill Winery is a great first stop for its breathtaking vineyard views. The laid-back, rustic charm of the yellow house tasting room makes for a welcoming introduction to Oregon wine.
Elk Cove Vineyards – One of Oregon’s pioneering wineries, Elk Cove is renowned for its estate-grown Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. The hilltop setting provides sweeping valley views, making it an ideal place to enjoy a tasting while taking in the scenery.
Chris James Cellars – Chris James Cellars offers a diverse selection, including Syrah, Grüner Veltliner, and sparkling wines. It is the perfect place for winding down your first day with a relaxing glass of wine.
Day 2: Boutique Wineries & Biodynamic Vineyards
Day two brings a mix of family-owned wineries and cutting-edge producers with a focus on sustainability:
Stoller Family Estate – This family-run winery is known for its sustainable, environmentally friendly approach to wine making. Their intimate tastings make for a truly personalized experience. What sets them apart? Their 400-acre property is the largest contiguous vineyard in Oregon’s Dundee Hills.
Lingua Franca – Founded by a Master Sommelier, this winery offers a sleek, all glass tasting room and is a must-visit for serious wine lovers. This was also where we had the best charcuterie board of the whole trip with amazing cheeses, pate and honey made from bumblebees that reside on the property.
Maysara Winery – A pioneer in biodynamic winemaking, Maysara offers an experience unlike any other in Willamette Valley. Their stunning windowless stone-walled tasting room, paired with their deep commitment to sustainability, makes it a memorable stop. Their Pinot Noir is some of the most expressive in the region.
Day 3: Unique Wines & Iconic Estates
On your final day, explore some of the valley’s most distinctive and highly regarded wineries:
Beckham Estate Vineyard – If you’re a fan of unique wines, Beckham Estate is a must-visit. They are one of the few wineries in the U.S. making wine in clay amphorae, resulting in incredibly complex and textured wines.
Domaine Roy & Fils – A winery that beautifully balances traditional and modern winemaking, Domaine Roy & Fils produces outstanding Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in an elegant setting. Their tasting experience is refined yet approachable.
Domaine Serene – One of the most prestigious wineries in Oregon, Domaine Serene has been globally recognized for its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The estate’s luxurious tasting room and expansive vineyard views provide the perfect way to end your wine tour on a high note. Fun fact: the husband-wife founders are originally from Minnesota and met at the U of M!

Make McMinnville Your Home Base
McMinnville is the heart of the Willamette Valley wine country, offering a charming downtown filled with tasting rooms, farm-to-table restaurants, and boutique shops. Some of our favorite places to grab a bite are La Rambla for tapas, Union Block Coffee for egg sandwiches, Alchemists Jam for croissants and cappuccinos, Golden Valley Brewery when you need a break from wine, and Pizza Capo for pizza. And while it’s not in McMinnville, The Red Hills Market in Dundee was recommended to us by many people. It’s centrally located in Willamette Valley, making it a great stop for sandwiches, cookies and other treats when you need a lunch stop.

Where to Stay: Atticus Hotel
Atticus Hotel, located in McMinnville, is a beautiful and comfortable place to stay. This boutique luxury hotel embodies the region’s character with its warm hospitality and locally inspired decor. Upon check-in you’ll be offered a glass of wine from a local winery. There’s an on-site restaurant and bar, and there was a cozy fire place, giant bathtub and wine fridge in our room. It made for the perfect place to come back to each night to unwind.

Spend An Extra Day in Portland
If you have an extra day or two, Portland is a fantastic place to wrap up your trip, especially since you’ll likely be flying in and out of the Portland airport. Some top things to do in Portland include the famous Powell’s Bookstore, Pearl District, Washington Park, Japanese Garden and the Portland Art Museum. For craft beer enthusiasts, a stop at Breakside Brewery or Deschutes Brewery is a must.
