Great Things to do in Red Wing, Minnesota
There are so many things to do in Red Wing, Minnesota. My mom and I took a day trip recently and it was an awesome getaway. Red Wing is an old river town with bluffs that offer incredible views of the Mississippi River.
There is so much history and pride in Red Wing. You’ll notice the red colored wing logo used all around town. Be sure to stop by the Red Wing shoe store to learn more about the boot that made Red Wing what it is today!
Visit the Red Wing Pottery Museum
Red Wing has a historic clay industry, so we kicked off the day by stopping at the Pottery Museum. Some of the pottery dates back to the 1800s! There are more than 6,000 vintage pieces of stoneware, art pottery, dinnerware and folk art. Admission to the museum is free, and it’s quite interesting!
Walk Around Memorial Park
We spent time down by the Mississippi River relaxing in Memorial Park. There is a lot to do and see in that part of town. We stopped into the Red Wing train station, which had an art gallery on display.
Walk Through the St. James Hotel
We walked through the St. James Hotel, which opened in 1875! It’s a gorgeous building and you can walk around the lobby and look at the beautiful architecture. If you’re staying in Red Wing for a few days, treat yourself and stay in this historic and beautiful building in the heart of town.
Check Out the Shops
There are so many cute shops in downtown Red Wing. My favorite is Uffda Shop, which has really high quality Norwegian clothing. There’s also an antique shop, Duluth Trading Company, and a bunch of gift shops.
Grab a Pastry, Coffee or Pizza
If you’re looking for places to eat and drink, you’ll find Staghead, Red Savoy’s Pizza, Hanisch Bakery, Mandy’s Coffee, several Mexican restaurants, and much more. We landed at Liberty’s Restaurant and Lounge and split a pizza. The pizza was huge and really good.
There’s also the Red Wing Brewery if you’re specifically looking for a beer spot. And they sell food too, like pizzas and calzones.
Sip Wine at Falconer’s Vineyard
Before leaving Red Wing for the day, we drove over to Falconer’s Vineyards for some wine. They call themselves a winery and cidery, and have a great outdoor seating area overlooking the vineyards. They sell wood-fired pizza too, which you can eat outside with your drinks!
Red Wing is a super cute river town, and there is a lot to see, do and eat. There is so much more to explore than what we saw, like hiking the bluffs! I’ll definitely be back.
