Summer Getaway to White Eagle Resort in Northern Minnesota

Summer Getaway to White Eagle Resort
There aren’t many family-run resorts left in Minnesota, and White Eagle Resort in Northern Minnesota is one of the last few. Nestled on the West end of Lake Vermilion this resort first opened in 1914 and offers so much more than just a cabin on the lake.
With 16 properties, you can find anything from one bedroom one bathroom cottages to a seven bedroom four bathroom lodge. We stayed in the Osprey house, a six bed six bathroom house with two kitchens! There’s even a house on a private island if you’re looking for a peaceful and secluded experience.
Because White Eagle Resort sits on Lake Vermilion, the water quality is superb and exceptionally clear. You’re guaranteed to see a ton of wildlife including bald eagles, loons, and maybe even a wolf that’s been spotted recently. White Eagle Resort is booking up quickly, so don’t wait if you want to visit this summer. I know we’ll definitely be back! White Eagle Resort hosted our stay. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

1. Rent a Boat with a Slide
White Eagle Resort has several boats to rent for whatever adventure you’re seeking. Whether you want to go fishing, zip around in a speed boat or jet ski or relax on a pontoon, there are a ton of options. I definitely recommend the pontoon that has an upper deck and slide!
2. Get a Massage
No need to drive to a spa for a massage. Just walk over to your appointment in the massage suite. Starting off the first morning with a massage was such a great way to set the tone for our relaxing Northwoods getaway.

3. Kayak and Paddle Board
White Eagle Resort has a variety of kayaks, canoes and inflatable standup paddle boards. No need to make a reservation. Just walk down to the beach, grab the one you want and start paddling!

4. Grill from Your Private Deck
With a full kitchen stocked with the essentials like pots, pans, knives, and cutting boards, and a gas grill on the deck, you can make a great meal while enjoying the lakefront view. We stayed in the Osprey house, which had two kitchens and two grills, one on the upper deck and one on the ground level patio.

6. Dine Out
If cooking isn’t your thing, drive or walk less than one mile to The Landing. They have great walleye tacos, cocktails and a beautiful view of the lake. We saw bald eagles and loons while sitting out on the back patio. A few other nearby options include The Vermilion Club, Rose Cottage Baking Co., The Montana Cafe, The Crescent and Moosebirds for ice cream.
7. Play in the Game Room
On rainy days, or just when you want to take a break from the sun, check out White Eagle Resort’s game room. You’ll find a fireplace, ping pong and pool tables, shuffleboard, and foosball.

8. Enjoy a Bonfire
Most cabins at White Eagle Resort have private fire pits, and some have a shared fire pit. It’s such a relaxing way to spend the evening making s’mores and listening to the loons.

9. Sweat in the Sauna
White Eagle Resort has two saunas, one big and one small. On a few occasions we got a good sweat going in the sauna, then jumped into the lake to cool off!

10. Practice Yoga on the Beach
White Eagle Resort has its own private beach with yoga classes offered every Tuesday and Friday morning. These classes are free to all resort guests. Yoga mats are provided but bring sunblock and lots of bug spray!

11. Go Fishing
There are a ton of locations to fish at White Eagle Resort, whether it’s from your cabin’s private dock, or the dock down by the beach, or just wading into the water. You can also rent a fishing boat if you’d like to venture out a little further in Lake Vermilion. Bring your own fishing gear, then utilize the fish house to clean and cut the fish, which you can grill for dinner!

12. Unwind on the Dock
I love that many of the cabins have their own private dock. It made for a quiet and peaceful place to read, sip coffee, and relax in the sun. It’s also a nice spot to swim if you don’t want to walk down to the beach.

13. Choose From 16 Unique Properties
White Eagle Resort has 16 unique properties! There is something for every group size and budget. You can stay in a tiny one bedroom cottage, or the Osprey house, which is where we stayed. The Osprey has six beds and six bathrooms, two kitchens and two outdoor grills, an indoor fireplace and several living rooms and reading nooks. And for a super unique experience, stay in a house on your own private island. White Eagle Resort is a super kid-friendly and dog-friendly resort. You can plan a girls trips, have a family reunion or go alone with your pup. Note, there are a few things White Eagle Resort does not provide, like coffee, shampoo or body wash. Be sure to read the complete list of amenities before you visit.
