Experience Minnesota’s Most Stunning Spring Blooms
After a long winter, nothing is more refreshing than seeing Minnesota burst into color with blooming tulips, cherry blossoms, and wildflowers. If you’re looking for the best places to experience spring flowers in full bloom, these gardens, parks, and trails are a must-visit. You can expect to see the first signs of spring flowers from around mid April through mid May.
1. Minnesota Landscape Arboretum (Chaska)
Located in Chaska, the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is a dream for flower lovers. Each spring, the gardens explode with tulips, daffodils, magnolias, and lilacs, offering a breathtaking display of color.
2. Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden (Minneapolis)
Tucked inside Theodore Wirth Park, the Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden is home to over 500 native plant species. Spring brings an abundance of trilliums, bloodroot, and violets, making it an excellent spot for wildflower photography.

3. Munsinger Clemens Gardens (St. Cloud)
Nestled along the Mississippi River in St. Cloud, these gardens offer a picturesque mix of blooming perennials, cascading fountains, and scenic walking paths. The tulips and peonies here are particularly stunning in spring. When I lived in St. Cloud I used to visit these gardens often.
4. Como Park Conservatory (St. Paul)
While Como Park Conservatory is a beautiful place to visit year-round, spring is particularly magical with its rotating floral displays. The sunken garden bursts with fragrant spring blooms, including lilies, hydrangeas, and azaleas.

5. Nerstrand Big Woods State Park (Northfield)
For a more natural setting, Nerstrand Big Woods State Park offers a vibrant display of wildflowers, including Minnesota’s rare dwarf trout lily, which blooms in April and May.
6. Leif Erikson Park & Rose Garden (Duluth)
Overlooking Lake Superior, the Duluth Rose Garden has breathtaking views and a variety of gorgeous blooms each spring. While roses peak in summer, spring visitors can enjoy early bulbs like tulips and daffodils.

7. Normandale Japanese Garden (Bloomington)
A peaceful and beautifully designed space, the Normandale Japanese Garden features blooming cherry blossoms in spring, along with magnolias and other delicate flowers. Located on the Normandale Community College campus, this serene garden is a great spot for quiet walks.
8. Quarry Hill Nature Center (Rochester)
For a mix of wildflowers and nature trails, Quarry Hill Nature Center in Rochester is great to visit in spring. The trails wind through prairies and woodlands, where you’ll find native wildflowers blooming in April and May.

9. Minneapolis Tulip House (Minneapolis)
One of the most unique springtime sights in the Twin Cities, the Minneapolis Tulip House is a private home where the owner plants thousands of tulips in their front yard, creating an incredible burst of color every spring. The best time to see the tulips in full bloom is typically late April to early May.
10. Afton State Park (Hastings)
Spring wildflowers like trilliums, bluebells, and Dutchman’s breeches transform the trails at Afton State Park into a floral wonderland. The mix of forests and open prairies provides a variety of colorful blooms, plus stunning views of the St. Croix River.
11. Carley State Park (Altura)
Carley State Park is known for its wild bluebells, which blanket the forest floor each spring. The vibrant blue and purple flowers make this lesser-known park a hidden treasure for nature lovers and photographers.
